Grýla

During Christmas, the Icelandic witch Grýla descends from the mountains with her large knife. She is on the hunt for naughty children, whom she collects and takes back to her lair.

In the lair, her husband (the third in line – the others she has eaten) has a large cauldron into which the harvest of children is poured and boiled.

The delicious dinner is served to Grýla’s 13 sons – the “Christmas lads.”
